soap boxes

the brief was to design a range of soap packaging.
i decided to use a standard box with special finishing to suite my product and concept.
my concept was based on a 1950's house wife theme.
i had 3 different soaps in my range, "skattie, bokkie and liefie."
each soap has it's own character and colour.
to stay true to my concept and to tie the theme together the boxes were designed with fabriano paper, the flowers on the boxes would be embossed to create a tactile feeling.
it appeals to your sense of touch and it's also very beautiful and subtle visually.
the characters and the the text on the front of the boxes were embroidered by hand and scanned, it looks like one of the house wives had embroidered it herself.
very tactile and beautiful, perfect for the theme.
i did the embroidery myself, it's a process i really enjoyed.
it was fun experimenting and i loved the end product.
the font i used on the side and back is an old skool type of cursive font with a modern twist, which really suits the design, because it's clean and simple, complimenting the design.

this project was something that was close to my heart, because i come from a long line of seamstresses and fashion designers, both my grand mothers and great grand mothers were seamstresses.
when i explored this project and doing the embroidery it felt like i was connecting with my roots.
i really enjoyed doing all the research for this project, coming up with my design and executing it properly.
this project helped me realize that i have an intense love for antique and vintage things.
i really appreciate the past eras, their designs and fashion and how they influence us in our daily lives.
